Ranikhet is a lovely hill-station located in the Almora District of Uttarakhand. Located at an altitude of 1869 metres on the southern slope of the Great Himalayas, the cool chimes of Ranikhet have been an attraction for the plains dwellers of the Indo-Gangetic belt for over a century now. Every summer thousands of tourists descend upon this quaint hill-town to escape from the heat and dust of the plains.

Besides the weather, Ranikhet holds many a other attractions for the tourists. A number of ancient and pretty temples dot the area in and around Ranikhet. The Jhula Devi Temple, built in the 8th century AD to honour Goddess Durga is much popular with the locals and tourists alike. The hundreds of bells tied all around the temple make for a grand sight.

The Chaubatia Orchard is a must visit for anyone interested in knowing more about the area’s flora. Amidst a variety of other flora, don’t forget to check out the numerous kinds of exotic flowers that you won’t find anywhere else in the world.

Unlike other hill-stations, the Mall in Ranikhet has not become a victim of modern commerce, thanks to the army. It’s a great place for taking leisurely, long walks while enjoying the sceneries around.

Golf and sports enthusiasts may like to visit or even tee-off at the Army Golf Course, set amidst fruit orchards. This excellently maintained nine-hole golf course is one of the higher golf courses in the world, presenting its own unique set of challenges for the golfer.
